Jewellery Care

Each piece of jewellery is lovingly handcrafted and made with the highest quality materials- each piece is also “tested” for a significant period of time to ensure it’s durability. With this being said however there are several things you can do to ensure that your pieces last and stay in good condition.

If you’re wanting to wear your pieces in the water more often and aren’t sure whether you should choose gold or silver, I would recommend choosing silver.

  • If you wear your jewellery in the ocean, make sure to wash in freshwater afterwards.

  • Even though your pieces are ocean-proof, please remove them before entering any pools, spas or saunas- the harsh chemicals will strip the metal, and accelerate fading of any glass beads.

  • With any plated or beaded pieces, it is recommended that you take them off before entering the shower- the chemicals found in soaps, body washes and shampoos will accelerate the fading of these materials.

  • Remove your jewellery before applying any perfumes, lotions and creams, and before doing exercise- the chemicals found in these compounds as well as the chemicals in your sweat can aid in tarnishing your jewellery.

  • With the more delicate and intricate pieces (like my shell or shark tooth necklaces) I would recommend removing before any rigorous exercise and before going to sleep. This will avoid unnecessary breakages.

What is my jewellery made out of?

sTERLING SILVER

Sterling silver is hypoallergenic and is made up of 92.5% pure silver. The other 7.5% is made up of metal alloy. This makes sterling silver incredibly durable (and not as soft and malleable as pure silver products).

Stainless steel

The two main benefits of using stainless steel is it is incredibly strong and durable, and also has a lower price point compared to precious metals. The stainless steel I use is surgical grade, so it is hypoallergenic and will withstand a lot of wear and tear without getting damaged or losing it’s shine.

18kt Gold pLATED STERLING SILVER / stainless steel

This is sterling silver or stainless steel with a thin layer of gold plated over the top. This gives the appearance of solid gold but with the added durability of sterling silver or stainless steel with a lower price point than solid gold pieces.

The gold plating will eventually wear off over time, so it is important to take good care of these pieces by following the advice above.
